Stratospheric Sulfur Geoengineering - Benefits and Risks

Recorded Wednesday, 10 January 2018: 8:45 AM Room 16AB (ACC) (Austin, Texas) Alan Robock, Rutgers University, New Brunswick, NJ [email protected] Geoengineering, also called climate engineering, has been proposed to address global warming, involving “solar radiation management (SRM)” by injecting particles into the stratospher [...]

Harvard's Solar Geoengineering Research Program

The Forum on U.S. Solar Geoengineering Research March 24, 2017 Washington, DC Produce research that advances solar geoengineering’s science and technology frontier, publishing high-impact papers, and disseminating ideas that are taken up by other researchers and government research programs. Take an active stance on research with a unique mandate to develop new path-b [...]

Commercial Aviation Creating Ice Haze and “Accidental Geoengineering”

If the recent clear sky “brightening” trend were due to cleaner air and fewer aerosols alone, it should be accompanied by an increase in direct downwelling shortwave radiation, one part of solar radiation reaching the surface directly from the Sun. That didn’t happen, Long reported during the American Geophysical Union fall meeting in San Francisco. Instead, Long and [...]

Geoengineering Necessary to Meet COP21 Goals

“Our backs are against the wall and we must now start the process of preparing for geo-engineering,” the letter said. “We must do this in the knowledge that its chances of success are small and the risks of implementation are great.” The Paris Agreement commits countries to a system of volutary national climate action plans, which will be reviewed every five years in [...]

Activists Challenge EPA at Hearing on Flight Pollution

Jim Lee, Max Bliss, Patrick Roddie, Michael Saraceno, and Amanda Baise speak at the world’s first hearing on flight pollution. The Environmental Protection Agency held a public hearing its Washington, D.C., headquarters to hear from environmental groups, aircraft industry representatives, private citizens and others on their reactions to the agency’s newly-relea [...]

Granger Morgan, Head, Department of Engineering and Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University, John D. Steinbruner, Director, Center for International and Security Studies at Maryland, and [...]

Critical Issues in Weather Modification Research

“Although 40 years have passed since the first NAS report on weather modification, this Committee finds itself very much in concurrence with the findings of that assessment we conclude that the initiation of large-scale operational weather modification programs would be premature. Many fundamental problems must be answered first. It is unlikely that these problems wil [...]

Doctor Evil's Geoengineering Plan: From National Lab to Global Governance

Teller, Wood, and Hyde from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory publish three papers on climate change, geoengineering, and national security. Ken Caldeira simulates a future geoengineered world (with a computer model) in the second published paper (1999) giving his stamp of approval. Full story below: “The whole game,” David Victor pointed out, “is about establish [...]

International Treaties and Active Experiments in Space

Satellite explorations of the near earth environment have vastly increased our understanding of space plasmas and their interactions with systems. A logical next step involves active experiments in which small quantities of matter and energy are injected into space environments. These experiments seek to verify tentative, scientific understanding and to identify ways [...]

The Environmental Modification Accountability Act #ENMODAA

An Act To End Atmospheric Experimentation Without Notification

Our solution is an addendum to the international weather warfare ban requiring two things:
• TRANSPARENCY: a worldwide requirement to give 48 hour notice before modifying or experimenting in our sky or surrounding atmosphere.
• VERIFICATION: create a worldwide citizen-powered sensor network to monitor atmospheric conditions, record video footage of sky conditions, analyze rainfall samples, and display atmospheric aerosols in real-time on a publically available website.

Hands Off Mother Earth Manifesto: A Permanent Ban on Geoengineering

110 civil society organizations and popular movements denounce geoengineering and demand an immediate stop to all open-air experiments.

If your organization would like to join the fight against geoengineering and endorse the HOME Manifesto, please send an email to [email protected].
